2D Barcode Scanners
When you think 2D barcode scanner, think low resolution digital camera. Captures an image in 2D, then analyzes the image for a barcode multiple times a second. Reads both 1D and 2D barcodes. 2D barcodes contain more information than conventional one dimensional (1D) linear barcodes. Unlike linear barcodes that require a database in order to have any meaning, 2D barcodes actually contain all of the information in the code. Most linear barcodes only contain between 6-10 characters; 2D can contain up to 500 characters on average. Conventional barcodes get wider as more data is encoded. 2D barcodes make use of the vertical dimension to pack in more data. Orientation insensitive – no need to line up the barcode. 2D imagers are capable of image capture such as signatures or damaged goods.
