1D Barcode Scanners
1D barcode scanners come commonly in two scan engine types, laser or linear imager (CCD). Laser scanners use a laser bouncing off an oscillating mirror to create a beam that illuminates the barcode. Optical sensor captures the light reflected back. Brightness and sharpness of the laser offers greater preciseness and visibility when targeting a barcode especially in bright light. Extended range laser scanners can achieve distances of up to 35 feet when reading special reflective labels and are ideal in forklift applications where greater read distances are required. Linear imager (CCD) scanners use bright LED lights instead of a laser, with a CCD or CMOS sensor to capture the reflected light. Reading distances of linear imager range from contact to two feet. Better for reading damaged or poorly printed barcodes and barcodes under plastic film or covering.
