Reading Barcodes and
Information
An input device is simply a scanner that provides
a quick and efficient way to transfer encoded information
into an application. Encoded data can be a bar code,
magnetic stripe or even some physiological characteristic
such as a fingerprint. Some barcode scanners require
direct contact with the encoded data while others can
read the data from a distance. Determining the input
device is generally the first step when considering
Automatic ID equipment.
